RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Accept the attached report pursuant to the Humboldt County Sanctuary Ordinance Section 9121-10.

DISCUSSION:

Pursuant to the Humboldt County Sanctuary Ordinance the Sheriff shall provide to the Board of Supervisors a written report stating the following:

A.                     A description of all communications received from the Federal agency charged with enforcement of the Federal immigration law, including but not limited to the number of civil detainers, notification requests, or other types of communications.

B.                     A description of any communications the department made to the Federal agency charged with enforcement of the Federal immigration law, including but not limited to any department’s responses to inquires as described herein.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to receiving this report. However, the estimated financial impact to collect data, prepare the report and agenda item for the board is $1,787. There is sufficient funding budgeted in the Sheriff’s Office budget units to prepare this report. There is no impact to the General Fund.

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by fostering transparent, accessible, welcoming and user friendly services.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:                     

The Board of Supervisors may choose not to accept the attached report however, this is not recommended as it would be against the specifications outlined in the Humboldt County Sanctuary Ordinance.
