RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Review the attached membership application from Lisa Gaetje and Aaron Sweat (attachments 1 and 2); and
2. Appoint Lisa Gaetje and Aaron Sweat to the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board (HCWDB) for a two-year term effective immediately pursuant to HCWDB Bylaws.

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Workforce Development Board (HCWDB) is an advisory board to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and is required by the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) to oversee Humboldt's workforce system and funding opportunities. The mission of the HCWDB is to offer resources that meet employer and employee needs for the county's continued prosperity. Under WIOA law, HCWDB must be composed of certain public agencies and labor unions, including but not limited to private sector businesses, community-based organizations providing workforce services, and vocational rehabilitation.
On Nov. 17, 2023, the HCWDB unanimously approved the applications Lisa Gaetje and Aaron Sweat for board membership which helps the board retain its compliance to WIOA law. The appointment of Lisa Gaetje diversifies the higher learning representation while appointing Aaron Sweat fulfills the underrepresented private business section of the Board.

There are no financial impacts by appointing these two individuals to the HCWDB.

There is no impact to staffing by appointing these two individuals to the HCWDB.
