Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                      Continue the hearing of the Solid Waste Container Sites and Redway Transfer Station to the meeting of June 2, 2026.

Body

STRATEGIC PLAN:

The recommended actions support the following areas of the Board of Supervisors’ Strategic Plan:

Area of Focus:  Core Services/Other

Strategic Plan Category:  9999 - Core Services/Other

DISCUSSION:

The County of Humboldt, through the Department of Public Works, has historically maintained agreements with Recology and related service providers for the operation and maintenance of the Redway Transfer Station and associated northern and southern solid waste container sites.

These services include solid waste handling, recycling support, and illegal dumping abatement, which are critical to maintaining public health, safety, and environmental compliance.

The Department is recommending continuing this item to the Board meeting of June 2, 2026, to allow more time to finalize the agreements.

SOURCE OF FUNDING:

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Narrative Explanation of Financial Impact:

No financial impact

STAFFING IMPACT:

The recommended actions will not impact current staffing levels.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

Your Board could choose to not continue this item. However, this is not recommended as that would require the Department to re-notice this item for public hearing where there has already been a lapse in payment.
