DISCUSSION:

SB 1256 (Wieckowski) Waste Management: Disposable Propane Cylinders is a new bill that would prohibit the sale of disposal 1-pound propane cylinders and make violation of this provision subject to specified civil penalties. These cylinders are expensive and difficult to recycle, pose environmental threats, and have an occupational safety and health concern. Therefore, the Board of Supervisor would like to send a letter of support.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no direct impact for sending a letter of support. However, if the bill is ultimately signed into law, there could be a savings for Public Works - Parks in terms of maintain county-operated parks as there would be less waste to clean up.
