DISCUSSION:
On March 21, 2023, your Board approved a Professional Services Agreement with Armstrong Consultants, Inc. for an Instrument Landing System (ILS) Category II (CAT II) Instrument Procedure Feasibility Study. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of implementing an ILS CAT II approach at ACV to better serve the facility users and community. By introducing ILS CAT II, the facility aims to reduce aircraft diversions, delays, and cancellations significantly.

Department of Aviation Staff and Paul Hannah with Lean Engineering, a subconsultant for Armstrong, will provide an overview of the current ILS structure and discuss the potential for implementation of a CAT II approach.

Paul and the Lean Engineering team have conducted a historical meteorological analysis to depict the operational impacts an improved ILS would provide to airline, and other users, of the ACV Airport.

Aviation staff will continue to work with Armstrong Consultants and Lean Engineering to present this information to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to justify implementation of these upgrades to the FAA owned and operated ILS infrastructure present at the ACV Airport.
