RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Authorize the Chair to sign the attached letter of support for California Assembly Bill 460.

Body

STRATEGIC PLAN:

The recommended action supports the following areas of the Board of Supervisors’ Strategic Plan:

Area of Focus:  Safe & Healthy Communities

Strategic Plan Category:  1001 -Support and sustain partnerships between public safety and partner agencies to enhance public safety in our communities

DISCUSSION:

California Assembly Bill 460 would allow the State Water Resources Control Board to more effectively enforce existing law to protect water rights, human health and safety and the environment from irreparable harm. Due to restrictions in the current law, it can take weeks, or longer, for the State Water Resources Control Board to stop unauthorized water use. California Assembly Bill 460 would increase the penalties for water rights violators and allow the State Water Resources Control Board to immediately halt any illegal actions.
