DISCUSSION:

The Senate Rules Committee approved the appointment of Mary Ann Hansen to the Early Childhood Policy Council.  The Governor established this council in 2020, to provide the input on policies impacting young children in California to the Governor, Legislature and the Superintendent of Public Instruction on statewide early learning, care and child development. The Early Childhood Policy Council’s focus is to provide a roadmap to achieve universal preschool and increase the availability of affordable, high-quality childcare. The council meets four times per year, as well as hearing from their two advisory committees, the Parent Advisory Committee and the Workforce Committee. The council brings experts and departments together on issues related to early childhood development, supports and provides public input and issues advisory letters to the Governor, Legislature and Superintendent of Public Instruction , with a recent focus on the state’s budget priorities.
