DISCUSSION:
The Board of Supervisors would like to proclaim March 2025 as Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with bleeding disorders like hemophilia and Von Willebrand disease.
These conditions affect thousands of people in California, with hemophilia impacting at least 4,000 individuals and Von Willebrand disease affecting around 360,000. This proclamation emphasizes that individuals with these disorders can lead fulfilling lives with the proper care and access to treatment.
The State of California has shown its commitment to supporting individuals with bleeding disorders through vital legislation and healthcare resources. Organizations like the Hemophilia Council of California and the Redwood Bleeding Disorders Community play crucial roles in advocacy, education and improving access to care for those affected.
The observance of Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month aims to increase public understanding, promote better access to care and encourage prevention efforts. The Board of Supervisors encourages residents to support individuals with bleeding disorders and contribute to these awareness efforts.
