DISCUSSION:
The Board of Supervisors has been asked to send a letter of support for the Middle Mad River Forest Enhancement Project.

The Middle Mad River Forest Enhancement Project is a landscape-scale forest restoration and wildfire resilience effort spanning approximately 2,729 acres of private forestland in eastern Humboldt County. The project will reduce wildfire risk, improve forest health, restore native oak woodlands, protect drinking water resources and enhance wildlife habitat through fuels reduction, forest stand improvement, reforestation and prescribed fire. A key focus is improving community safety along the Maple Creek-McIntosh Road corridor by creating shaded fuel breaks that strengthen emergency access, evacuation routes and firefighting capabilities.

By addressing the impacts of historic forest management and fire exclusion, the project will promote long-term watershed resilience, carbon sequestration and ecological health while supporting local jobs and ensuring these forestlands continue to provide environmental, economic and public safety benefits for future generations.
