DISCUSSION:
June 19th has a special meaning for the African American community known as Juneteenth. It represents the abolishment of slavery and the emancipation signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The Board of Supervisors is declaring June 19, 2023 as Juneteenth Day in Humboldt County to bring awareness and to celebrate this historical day of freedom.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Juneteenth is a paid holiday for county staff, and related expenditures have been included in the adopted FY 2023-24 budget.
