DISCUSSION:
Both the federal bankruptcy and state law require the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approve any Plan of Reorganization in the current proceedings of Pacific Gas and Electric Company and their parent corporation’s bankruptcy. Therefore, local leaders across California sent a letter to President Batjer and Commissioners of the CPUC on November 4, 2019, regarding the “Critical Matters Related to the PG&E Bankruptcy”. The letter recommends that the CPUC look at more than a restructuring of the existing PG&E company. It suggests exploring options such as a customer-owned utility structure.
Humboldt County would like to send a letter supporting this collaborative approach and encourage the CPCU address other options that would better serve the interests of the customers and provide a new approach to utility management.
