RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Review the attached membership applications from Cody Freitas and Scott Thompson (attachments 1 and 2); and
2. Appoint Cody Freitas and Scott Thompson to the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board for a two-year term effective immediately pursuant to Humboldt County Workforce Development Board Bylaws.

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Workforce Development Board is an advisory board to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and is required by the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act to oversee Humboldt's workforce system and funding opportunities. The mission of the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board is to offer resources that meet employer and employee needs for the county's continued prosperity. Under Workforce Investment Opportunity Act law, the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board must be composed of specific percentages of entities representing public agencies, labor unions, private sector businesses, community-based organizations providing workforce services and vocational rehabilitation, as well as others.

On May 17, 2024, the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board unanimously approved the applications of Cody Freitas and Scott Thompson for board membership. The appointment of Cody Freitas fills the Labor Union seat, while appointing Scott Thompson fills a private business seat, both are required seats on the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board as mandated by the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act.

There are no financial impacts by appointing these two individuals to the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board.
