RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Appoint Carson Vandiver to the Humboldt No. 1 Fire Protection District Board.

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors was notified that the Humboldt No. 1 Fire Protection District Board of Directors has recently had a member resign. This has left the district without a quorum or ability to conduct business. They have asked for an emergency appointment per California Government Code 1780 (h)(1) which states in pertinent part, "notwithstanding any other provision of this section, if the number of remaining members of the district board falls below a quorum, then at the request of the district secretary or a remaining member of the district board, the appropriate board of supervisors or the city council shall promptly appoint a person to fill the vacancy or may call an election to fill the vacancy." They have requested that the Board of Supervisors appoint Carson Vandiver to the Humboldt No. 1 Fire Protection District Board.

SOURCE OF FUNDING:
General Fund

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There are no direct costs associated with making the requested appointment to the Humboldt No. 1 Fire Protection District Board of Directors. As a result, the recommended action will not impact the Humboldt County General Fund.

STAFFING IMPACT:
The recommended action will not impact current staffing levels.
