DISCUSSION:

On November 6th, California voters will have the opportunity to oppose or support Proposition 6, which will eliminate recently enacted road repair, safety improvements and transportation funding by repealing revenues dedicated by a state law passed in 2017.

In 2017, the County of Humboldt and its incorporated cities received $5.6 million.  In 2018, we will receive a similar amount plus more than $1.5 million for repairs and safety improvements. This funding also will help provide safer routes to school for Humboldt County children.

This is a tax, that is already being paid, and repeal would have a significant impact especially in Humboldt County’s unincorporated communities.

The Board of Directors of Rural County Representatives of California has also taken a position to oppose Proposition 6.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

If this measure passes, Humboldt County would lose more than $6 million dollars a year for transportation repairs and improvements and additional funding would only come with the passage of a 2/3rds vote.
