STRATEGIC PLAN:

This action supports the following areas of your Board’s Strategic Plan.

Area of Focus:  Core Services/Other

Strategic Plan Category:  9999 - Core Services/Other

DISCUSSION:

Maternal mental health is a significant public health issue affecting families in Humboldt County and beyond, with many individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, or related conditions during or after pregnancy, yet fewer than 15% receive treatment due to barriers and stigma. These conditions can impact both maternal and child health, and proclaiming May 2026 as “Maternal Mental Health Month” supports efforts to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals to resources and support services.
