Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Receive and file a presentation by Dr. Candy Stockton, Health Officer, regarding xylazine and its presence locally.

DISCUSSION:
In November 2022, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) warned health care professionals nationally that xylazine, a drug approved by the FDA for use in animals, was being detected in an increasing number of overdose deaths. Xylazine has now been confirmed to be in Humboldt County. Dr. Candy Stockton, Humboldt County Health Officer, will make a brief presentation on xylazine and its impact locally.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The only financial impact of making this presentation is staff time. Financial impacts associated with xylazine presence in a community are not yet known.
