DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Assessment Appeals Board has an At-Large vacancy due to the term expiration of Richard Phillis on Jan. 12, 2024. The Assessment Appeals Board also has two At-Large Alternate vacancies due to the term expiration of Julie Porteous on Jan. 12, 2024, and an unfilled position.

The Notice of Vacancy has been posted per the Board of Supervisors protocol. A separate agenda item will be brought back to the Board on Feb. 6, 2024, for the consideration of appointment to fill the vacancy.

The Assessment Appeals Board has a training requirement with the Board of Equalization that must be completed prior to serving and applicants need to be a certified public accountant, a licensed real estate broker, attorney, or property appraiser or a person whom the Board of Supervisors believes has a competent knowledge of property appraisal and taxation.

Applications are available at the Clerk of the Boards office or by emailing COB@co.humboldt.ca.us.

All appointed members will be required to comply with the California Fair Political Practices Form 700 requirements as well as completing AB1234 Ethics training every 2 year.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is not financial impact to posting the vacancies on various Boards, Commissions and Committees. However, members that serve on the Assessment Appeals Board do receive a stipend for the meeting service.
