Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Adopt the resolution; and
2. Receive the attached letter Affirming Our Stance Against Hate.

DISCUSSION:
Recently, the County of Humboldt, along with several other local agencies, received a vicious and hateful message that threatened the lives of members of the Black and 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities. The sentiments expressed in that message are abhorrent and run contrary to the values of this organization. The county remains steadfast in its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). On Dec. 20, 2022, the Board of Supervisors issued an anti-hate resolution in response to hate events that had taken place in the community. In light of the current events, the Board would like to condemn identity-based hate and reinforce the county’s commitment to making our community a safe place where all people feel like they belong.
Many community leaders signed on to the attached letter through Friday afternoon, and signatures will continue to be added to this letter.
