That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the appointment of Michele Stephens to the First Five Humboldt Commission.

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is the appointing body for the First Five Humboldt Commission. As such, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requests the Board to appoint Michele Stephens to the First Five Humboldt Commission. DHHS Child Welfare Services program manager Veronica “Nica” Meggerson has resigned from the commission, creating a vacancy for DHHS’s Social Services Branch. Michele Stephens, DHHS Assistant Director, is proposed to represent DHHS Social Services representative. Michele is being appointed mid-term; the four-year term expires Dec. 14, 2024.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board could choose to not appoint Michele Stephens to the First Five Humboldt Commission. This is not recommended, as it would leave the Commission short a member and without the extensive knowledge, including a CWS background, that Michele Stephens brings to this appointment.
