RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Accept the Certified Statement of Results of the Official Canvass for the Nov. 4, 2025, Statewide Special Election.

DISCUSSION:
Immediately upon the close of the polls on Election Day, the county elections office begins the canvass of the vote. The activities undertaken during the official canvass include:
1. Processing and counting any valid vote by mail and provisional ballots not included in the
election night totals;
2. An inspection of all materials and supplies returned from vote centers;
3. A reconciliation of the number of signatures on the vote center rosters with the number of ballots recorded on the ballot statement;
4. A reconciliation of the number of ballots counted, spoiled, or rejected due to damage;
5. Reproducing any damaged ballots, if necessary;
6. Conducting a hand count of the ballots cast in one percent of the precincts; and,
7. Reporting the final results to the Secretary of State as required.
Elections Code, Section 15372(a), requires the county elections official to complete the official canvass no later than the 30th day after the election and submit a certified statement of the results to the governing body, the County Board of Supervisors.
