RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve, and authorize the Director of Public Works to advertise and distribute, the attached request for qualifications regarding the provision of construction management services for the Humboldt Bay Trail South Project.

DISCUSSION:
Humboldt County is implementing the Humboldt Bay Trail South Project ("Project") which will expand the Humboldt Bay Trail by four and one-quarter (4.25) miles and complete the trail connection between Eureka and Arcata. The Project will connect with the Eureka Waterfront Trail near the Target store and with the City of Arcata's existing trail north of Bracut. The Project will serve multiple purposes including active transportation, coastal access, and recreation. The Project will provide a significant advancement of the Great Redwood Trail and the California Coastal Trail.

The Project will provide a paved trail separated from roadways (except for crossing the driveway into Bracut Industrial Park). The majority of the trail will be situated between Highway 101 and the railroad corridor, except where the alignment is situated on the levee surrounding the Brainard mill site (approximately one (1) mile) and where the trail is situated on the Eureka Slough railroad bridge. The Project includes widening the railroad prism, major modifications to the Eureka Slough railroad bridge, construction of three new trail bridges, repairs to the shoreline armoring along the railroad, raising the elevation of the railroad between Brainard and Bracut to address flood...
