DISCUSSION:

“Week Without Driving”, observed Oct. 1 through Oct. 8, 2026, is intended to raise awareness of the transportation challenges faced by people who do not drive or do not have access to a vehicle. The observance highlights the importance of having safe, reliable and accessible transportation options, including public transit, walking and bicycling infrastructure, for Humboldt County residents and visitors. It also encourages community members to consider how transportation choices affect accessibility, mobility, community connection and greenhouse gas emissions. Proclaiming Week Without Driving provides an opportunity for the Board of Supervisors to recognize the importance of transportation options that allow people of all ages and abilities to participate fully in their communities and to support continued efforts to improve mobility throughout Humboldt County.
