DISCUSSION:

Eugene B “Joe” Thomas graduated from Stanford University with a degree of Civil Engineer and immediately began a lifelong career at the California State Division of Highways (CalTrans), eventually rising to Chief Maintenance Engineer for the entire State of California.  Over the years, Mr. Thomas engineered spans of Highway 101 up and down Humboldt, Del Norte, and Mendocino counties.  A memorial on State Highway 101 near Arcata (postmile 86.50 to 89.00) would be an wonderful way to honor his memory and to recognize his service, patriotism, strength of character, hard work, generosity and resilience.
