DISCUSSION:
On July 14, 2020, your Board recognized a national movement to engage in dialogue about diversity and inclusion and directed staff to "explore, prepare and develop strategies and practices to support a diverse workplace and harness the benefits of diversity and inclusion to achieve organizational excellence." With this directive, staff continue to advance initiatives aimed to enhance and support the values of diversity and inclusion countywide by considering the full range of psychological, physical and social differences that occur among individuals, such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, language, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability and learning styles to ensure any individual
or group feel welcome, respected, supported and valued.

Annually, during the month of June, communities reflect on and celebrate the history, progress and contributions of the Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) community. These celebrations have come to be known as Pride Month. The roots of Pride Month trace back to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which is acknowledged as a tipping point for the 2SLGBTQIA+ rights movement in the U.S.
