DISCUSSION:

Humboldt Cruisers, a local group, is sponsoring a cruise in support of local essential services and blue-collar agencies.  This event will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020, in Eureka.  Employees of the Humboldt County Department of Public Works - Roads Division are requesting approval to enter county-owned pickups numbers 06262 and 06277 in the cruise.  Employees will volunteer their time to drive the county equipment in the cruise.  The employees feel this will be beneficial to the Humboldt Cruise attendees as well as beneficial to the morale of the employees.  Although this event is not intended to draw spectators your Boards' approval would be contingent on the event organizers submitting their plan to the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for review and approval and any recommended public health measures being in place.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

All costs associated with the use of county-owned equipment in the Humboldt Cruisers Blue Collar Proud Cruise will be borne by volunteers from the Humboldt County Public Works Department.  As a result, the recommended action will not impact the Humboldt County General Fund.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

The recommended action supports the Board of Supervisors’ Strategic Framework by inviting civic engagement and awareness of available services.
