DISCUSSION:
Humboldt Lodge #79, Free and Accepted Masons was formally established on June 30, 1854, just over one year after the founding of Humboldt County. For the past 168 years, Humboldt Lodge #79 has been a pillar of charity and good will in Humboldt County, sponsoring programs for children, college scholarships, and donating to various local organizations and public entities for the betterment of our community. Over the course of the past 168 years, Humboldt Lodge #79 has operated out of five different locations around Humboldt Bay, initially in the town of Bucksport, then moving to Eureka in 1858 as the town (now city) had become the county seat and many of the Lodge’s members had moved to Eureka due to the expanding industry and economic benefits of living in what was at the time, considered the leading settlement on Humboldt Bay.
On April 22, 1922, Humboldt Lodge #79 began construction of a new temple at 5th and G Street, Eureka, laying the cornerstone for the building that they have now occupied for 100 years. The proclamation brought forward today, April 19, 2022, is in recognition of the centennial anniversary of the cornerstone being laid at 5th and G Street, Eureka, and in recognition of the positive work and dedication to community that the Masons of Humboldt Lodge #79 continue to carry forward.
