1.                     Receive and file a presentation on The Center at McKinleyville, an Integrated Services Project

DISCUSSION:

The first discussions about an integrated regional service center in McKinleyville began in 2012. Initial partners were the McKinleyville Communitive Collaborative (McKinleyville Family Resource Center) and the Department of Health and Human Services, and on March 1, 2016, the County of Humboldt, Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) issued a Request for Proposals for a developer to build, to suit, a building to house the McKinleyville Family Resource Center, various DHHS programs, and other partners in an integrated service center. On November 8, 2016, your Board approved the selection of the developer; on April 15, 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony was held; in December 2021 construction was completed; in February 2022 services began being delivered at The Center at McKinleyville; and in May 2022 a grand opening was held.

The Center at McKinleyville is a place any Humboldt resident can go to access, in one location, a variety of resources and supports, such as benefits programs, case management, food pantry, and community classes. The Center uses innovative cross-agency approaches to community issues and multi-agency staff-supported processes to solicit and respond to community input. Representatives from The Center team will present on the first two years of The Center at McKinleyville, also known as Rraninou’Waduk (“we help each other” in the Wiyot language, pronunciation dah-nee-noot-wah-duck).

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to receiving a presentation on The Center at McKinleyville.

STAFFING IMPACT:

There is no staffing impact to receiving a presentation on The Center at McKinleyville. In DHHS, staff were not added when The Center opened, rather, existing staff were re-assigned to The Center. This has enabled DHHS staff to reduce driving time and increase direct service delivery time, using the same number of staff, while providing a better service experience to customers.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework priority of creating opportunities for improved safety and health, providing community-appropriate levels of service, and inviting civic engagement and awareness of available services.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

McKinleyville Family Resource Center, Department of Social Work - Cal Poly Humboldt, Trinidad Rancheria Tribal Social Services, North Coast Regional Department of Child Support Services, Open Door Community Health Centers

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board could choose to not accept the presentation.
