Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Accept a donation of dimensional framing lumber from the Schmidbauer Family Sawmills as described below; and
2. Authorize the Chair of the Board to sign the attached letter of appreciation.

DISCUSSION:
Following a planning, design and bidding process, the John Haynes Veterans Memorial Building in Garberville is currently under construction. When completed, this structure will be a modern replacement for the original facility built in the 1960s.
In support of the construction of this important county facility serving the area veterans and the community, the Schmidbauer Family Sawmills have made a generous donation of framing lumber valued at $10,000. This contribution reflects a deep commitment to honoring our veterans and strengthening the fabric of our community.
Public Works recommends that your Board accept the donation of framing lumber with a value of $10,000 from the Schmidbauer Family Sawmills and authorize the Chair of the Board to sign the attached letter of appreciation.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Narrative Explanation of Financial Impact:
The acceptance of this donation will allow for a deductive change order to be processed, thereby reducing the cost of construction of the Garberville John Haynes Veteran’s Memorial Building Project by $10,000.
STAFFING IMPACT:

Acceptance of this donation will not impact staffing.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None
ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board of Supervisors may choose not to accept the donation of framing lumber for the project. However, this alternative is not recommended as it would be a lost opportunity to involve the community in this project in a deeper way and save construction costs.
