RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Appoint Kelly Johnson to the Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board for a three (3) year term; and

2.                     Direct the Clerk of the Board to provide the Department of Health and Human Services - Behavioral Health with one (1) fully executed certified copy of the Board order related to this item.

DISCUSSION:

The Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board is a requirement of California Welfare and Institutions Code Secition 5604 and was established per the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act of 1967. The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services - Behavioral Health actively supports the Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board in accordance with applicable local, state and federal requirements.

 

The Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board consists of fifteen (15) members and meets monthly in accordance with the provisions of the Brown Act.  Counties are encouraged to appoint individuals who have experience and knowledge of the mental health system. The Behavioral Health Board should reflect the diversity of the client population in the county. Fifty percent (50%) of the membership shall be consumers or the parent, spouse, sibling or adult children of consumers who are receiving or have received mental health services.

 

Ms. Johnson meets the criteria to serve on the Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board. The applicant has worked in community mental health for 17 years and currently works as the Crisis Intervention Coordinator for the Yurok Tribal Police. In addition, Ms. Johnson possesses lived experience.

Behavioral Health Fund

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There are no direct costs associated with the recommended appointment since Behavioral Health Board members volunteer their services. 

 

STAFFING IMPACT:

The recommended actions will not impact current staffing levels.

None

Board discretion.
