DISCUSSION:

The Board of Supervisors will receive an update from members of the County Coordinator Team on program outcomes and achievements. In 2021, the County of Humboldt was one of 24 counties selected by the California Fire Safe Council to receive a County Coordinators grant, funded by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The objective of this statewide program is to educate, encourage, and develop countywide collaboration and coordination among various wildfire mitigation groups operating within counties containing State Responsibility Area lands. This program has catalyzed progress on the implementation of the Humboldt County Community Wildfire Protection Plan through enhanced countywide collaboration, resulting in increased capacity and partnerships among local wildfire mitigation groups.

This team was assembled from county staff and local consulting partners to both educate and learn from these groups as they collectively work to broadcast a shared vision of a wildfire resilient Humboldt County. This team also supports the basic organizational functions of the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council (HCFSC), a Board appointed committee. In early 2024, the county received a second County Coordinators Grant Program award which must be spent by December 31, 2024. As this second round of program funding come to an end, this report will provide details on achievements and lessons learned.
