DISCUSSION:

An effort is underway to rename the Ohman Creek Bridge, located on State Route 254 at Mile Marker 0.88, Bridge No. 04-007, in memory of Thomas Dale Sarver, who passed away on January 4, 2021, at the age of sixty-three (63).  Mr. Sarver was a skilled ironworker and long-time member of Iron Workers Local 377, where he maintained membership from 1989 until his passing.

During his more than thirty (30) year career, Mr. Sarver worked on numerous local construction projects, including, without limitation, the new Ohman Creek Bridge, which was one of his final projects and a job he particularly enjoyed.

In addition to his professional contributions, Mr. Sarver was deeply involved in the Southern Humboldt community.  Mr. Sarver volunteered and coached youth sports, including Southern Humboldt Little League and soccer, and contributed significant time to the construction and maintenance of local athletic facilities.  Mr. Sarver also volunteered with the South Fork High School Boosters Club and worked on other community projects, including the Eureka Waterfront Trail and the Humboldt Bay nuclear facility decommissioning.

Mr. Sarver’s family has requested that the Ohman Creek Bridge be renamed in his memory as a lasting tribute to a man who helped build the bridge itself and devoted much of his life to supporting his family and community.  The request is further supported by Iron Workers Local 377, which recognized Mr. Sarver as a valued member who proudly maintained his membership for more than three decades.
