RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Authorize the Humboldt County Public Works Director to exercise the second option to extend the term of the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz regarding the use of office space located at 3156 Redwood Drive, Redway, California to March 15, 2024; and

2.                     Direct the Clerk of the Board to provide the Humboldt County Public Works - Real Property staff with a fully executed certified copy of the Board Order relating to this item.

DISCUSSION:

On April 2, 2019, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors (“Board”) approved the current lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz regarding the use of office space located at 3156 Redwood Drive, Redway, California. The Board subsequently approved the first of two (2) options to extend the term of the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz to March 15, 2023 on February 8, 2022.

 

Execution and delivery of the attached second option letter will extend the term of the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz to March 15, 2024.  Mr. Katz has waived the required ninety (90) day notice period regarding the second option to extend the current lease agreement regarding the use of office space located at 3156 Redwood Drive, Redway, California.

 

Accordingly, staff recommends that the Board authorize the Humboldt County Public Works Director to exercise the second option to extend the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz regarding the use of office space located at 3156 Redwood Drive, Redway, California.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The monthly rental cost for the period of March 16, 2023 through March 15, 2024 shall be One Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars ($1,700.00) per month.  The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health (“DHHS - Public Health”) has sufficient funding in budget unit 1175-416, Public Health Nursing, to cover the monthly rental costs for the remainder of fiscal year 2022-2023 and will budget sufficient funds in fiscal year 2023-2024.

 

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

The recommended actions support the Board of Supervisors’ Strategic Framework by providing for and maintaining infrastructure.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:                     

None

 

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:                     

The Board may choose not to authorize the Humboldt County Public Works Director to exercise the second option to extend the term of the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz regarding the use of office space located at 3156 Redwood Drive, Redway, California.  However, this is not recommended as it would cause the lease agreement with David G. Katz and Anne Braak-Katz to expire on March 15, 2023, forcing DHHS - Public Health to locate, lease and move into another legally compliant location nearby.  There are no other satisfactory locations available in Southern Humboldt to accommodate DHHS - Public Health at this time.
