RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors approve the Humboldt County Fish and Game Commission’s recommended grant allocations in the amount of $8,500.00.

DISCUSSION:
The purpose of the Fish and Game Advisory Commission budget unit is to function as both the unit for the Fish and Game Advisory Commission and the funding source for its grant program. Grants are awarded after recommendations are made by the Commission and after approval by the Board.
The Fish and Game Advisory Commission issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on June 7, 2018 for the granting of State Fish and Wildlife code violation funds for RFP’s meeting the requirements of Fish and Game Code 13103. The deadline for the RFP submissions was postmark date July 2, 2018. At the Commission’s August 21, 2018 meeting, requests for grants were reviewed and rated based on: benefit to priority fish and wildlife species; ability of the proposer to successfully implement the proposed project; biological soundness of the project; technical merit; and cost effectiveness. The Commission voted to recommend the funding as follows:
Application 2018-1 Humboldt County Office of Education “Classroom Aquarium Education Program”. $4,200
Application 2018-2 Reef Check Foundation “Long-Term Monitoring Efforts and Abalone size frequency surveys in Humboldt County. $3,000
Application 2018-3 CDF&W “Deer Decoy”. $1,300
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Fish and Game Advisory Commissions budget, 1700-290, allotted $8,500 toward grant funding this year. The Fish and Game Advisory Commission Fund has sufficient funds to award the priority of advancing local interest in natural resource discussions.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board could choose to not approve the recommendations in whole or in part. This is not recommended because the Fish and Game Advisory Commission has evaluated and recommended these grants for funding.
