STRATEGIC PLAN:

This action supports the following areas of your Board’s Strategic Plan.

Area of Focus:  Core Services/Other

Strategic Plan Category:  9999 - Core Services/Other

DISCUSSION:

The May 19, 2026, Board meeting is currently designated as a half-day session. During the development of the 2026 Board meeting calendar, staff initially recommended cancellation of this meeting to accommodate travel for Board members and senior staff attending the Pacific Offshore Wind Summit and the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Legislative Conference.

The meeting was subsequently added back to the calendar as a half-day; however, the proximity of the conferences presents logistical challenges for travel and limits the ability of Board members and key staff to fully participate in these statewide meetings. These conferences provide important opportunities for advocacy, legislative engagement and coordination on issues that directly impact Humboldt County.

Cancelling the meeting will support full participation in these conferences while minimizing operational disruption, as the meeting was already planned for a reduced schedule. Staff will ensure that any time-sensitive items are scheduled for preceding or subsequent meetings to avoid delays in Board business.
