DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Fish & Game Advisory Commission issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on July 1, 2025, to award grant funds from State Fish and Wildlife Code violation penalties to projects that meet the requirements of Fish and Game Code 13103.
The deadline for RFP submissions was July 31, 2025, based on the postmark date. At the commission’s regular meeting on Aug. 19, 2025, proposals were reviewed and evaluated based on their benefit to priority fish and wildlife species, the proposer’s ability to successfully implement the project, the project’s biological soundness, technical merit and cost effectiveness.
The commission submitted their funding recommendation to the Clerk of the Board in a letter dated Sept. 5, 2025 (Attachment 1). The commission’s recommendations including funding the following proposals:
• “A comparative Survey of Ichthyoplankton in Humboldt Bay, California” (Attachment 2) - grant award of $2,500.00
• “Pretty Dam Different: Using 3D Geometric Morphometrics to Assess Shape Differences in the Klamath Smallscale Sucker (Catostomus rimiculus) Above and Below the Klamath Dam Complex” (Attachment 3) - grant award of $1,898.34.
The recommended grant proposals are attached. The remainder of the commission’s grant funds are being held for the next year’s cycle of grant requests.

Fish and Game (Fund 1700-290)
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Humboldt County Fish & Game Advisory Commission budget (1700-290) has approved a total of $4,398.34 toward grant funds for this fiscal year.
STAFFING IMPACT:
There is no impact to staffing associated with this agenda item.
