That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Assign the Sheriff’s unused space on the fifth floor of the County Courthouse to the
District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness and CAST programs.

DISCUSSION:
On June 29, 2021, your Board assigned Fan Room Two, located in the center of the fifth floor corridor, approximately 423 square feet, to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office was interested in this space to relocate its business office. The Sheriff’s Office has since determined renovations of the space are too costly and wishes to vacate the space in Fan Room Two.
The District Attorney’s Victim Witness and CAST programs wish to utilize this space for current and future storage needs. Minimal renovations, if any, will be needed to accommodate the Victim Witness and CAST programs’ storage needs.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of the recommended action has no direct financial impact other than staff time to prepare the staff report. Should the programs determine renovations are needed the District Attorney’s Office will bring an item to your Board at a future date to detail plans and costs as needed.

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by providing for and maintaining infrastructure .

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Your Board could decline to reassign the unused space. However, this alternative is not recommended as the Victim Witness and CAST programs would need to look at entering into lease options for storage to avoid creating American with Disabilities Act (ADA) barriers to access in their current footprint.
