DISCUSSION:

On Sunday, June 2, 2024, Adventures Edge teamed up with local cyclist, Melanie Williams, to host a benefit ride to end AIDS as part of a challenge to raise funds for AIDS LifeCycle 2024.  The ride was 100 kilometers from Adventure’s Edge in Arcata to Loleta, stopping at the Jersey Scoop for a snack, and returning to Arcata.  The fundraiser was a huge success, and in recognition of the local work done by the Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health’s (“DHHS - Public Health”) North Coast AIDS Project (“NorCAP”), a portion of the proceeds were donated thereto.

NorCAP has been providing services, including, without limitation, case management, to connect people living with HIV to medical care and other supportive services since the 1980s.  NorCAP expanded services in 2012 to include outreach to marginalized populations in the county at high risk for HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted diseases, many of whom also experience homelessness and substance use.  The mobile vans travel throughout the county delivering health education services, providing linkages to care, HIV and HCV rapid testing, supplies that prevent overdose, hygiene, safety, and other harm reduction services.  The program has most recently started offering care coordination services to people living with HCV, connecting them to medical care and other supportive services, and providing support to assist people in successfully completing treatment and achieving viral suppression beginning in 2019.

DHHS-Public Health wishes to thank everyone involved in the ride for their generous donations to support people living with HIV everywhere, especially in our local community.
