RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve, and authorize the Humboldt County Purchasing Agent, or a designee thereof, to execute any purchase orders related to the acceptance of the attached quote for the renewal of Palo Alto Firewall licenses for the period of August 28, 2024, through August 31, 2027; and
2. Direct the Clerk of the Board to provide the Information Technology Division of the County Administrative Office with one (1) fully executed certified copy of the Board order related to this item.

DISCUSSION:
In order to maintain the highest level of network security and to protect the County of Humboldt’s information assets, the Information Technology Division of the County Administrative Office utilizes the Palo Alto Precision AI Network Security solutions. The current subscription bundle, which includes Advanced Threat Prevention, Advanced URL Filtering, Advanced Wildfire, Advanced DNS Security and SD-WAN, has been integral in safeguarding our network from advanced cyber threats and ensuring secure and efficient network operations. The existing subscription is approaching its expiration date, and it is imperative to renew this bundle to continue benefiting from the advanced security features it provides. Renewal of the Palo Alto Firewall licensing will ensure uninterrupted protection and enhanced security capabilities for the County of Humboldt’s network infrastructure for the period of August 28, 2024 through August 31, 2027.

The maximum amount payable for the provision of the needed Palo Alto Firewall licenses is Two Hundred Ninety-One Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty-Nine Dollars and Twenty-Three Cents ($291,959.23) for the period of August 28, 2024, through August 31, 2027. Expenditure appropriations related to the provision of the Palo Alto Firewall licenses have been included in the adopted fiscal year 2024-2025 budget for Information Technology budget unit 3550-118.
STAFFING IMPACT:
Renewal of the Palo Alto Firewall licenses will not impact current staffing levels.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None
ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board could choose not to approve the attached quote. However, this alternative is not recommended as it would leave the county with no firewall protection and no way to route internet traffic in and out of the county network.
