DISCUSSION:

The Humboldt County Fire Council (HCFSC) met on November 18, 2021. At this meeting the Council membership expressed support for three nominated members and are asking the Board of Supervisors for their appointments. Per the Board of Supervisors updated Protocol for Board of Supervisors Appointments, dated March 23, 2021, the Fire Safe Council is listed on Exhibit 1 of Attachment B so therefore is excluded from the At-Large appointment protocol. Recommended appointments are described below.

The Willow Creek Fire Safe Council (WCFSC) has nominated John Evans as their representative with WCFSC Secretary Basho Parks as his alternate. Mr. Evans would replace longtime member of both the WCFSC and HCFSC Joe O’Hara who passed away suddenly at the end of last year.

The Humboldt County Resource Conservation District has nominated individuals to fill their relatively new seat on the Council for the first time. Executive Director Jill Demers has been proposed as their representative with Forest Health Watershed Coordinator Julia Sullivan as her alternate.

And finally, the Six Rivers National Forest has nominated Supervisor’s Office Division Chief, David Soldavini as their representative with Chief III Benjamin Hendricks as his alternate. Mr. Soldavini would replace Josh Eichamer as the non-voting federal liaison for the Six Rivers National Forest on the Council. Mr. Eichamer will continue to stay engaged.

Staff requests your Board approve the above recommended appointments to the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council made by Council members.
