Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Accept the resignation of Bennett Hoffman as Child Support Director, effective May 8, 2026; and
2. Approve the interim appointment of Stacey Costa as Child Support Director, effective May 9, 2026, pending recruitment and appointment of a permanent Director.

DISCUSSION:
Mr. Bennett Hoffman has submitted his resignation as Director of the Department of Child Support Services, effective May 8, 2026. Mr. Hoffman has provided dedicated service to the county and has contributed significantly to the continued strength and performance of the Department.
The Department of Child Support Services is a stable, high-performing operation with experienced leadership and strong internal systems. To ensure continuity of operations and maintain uninterrupted service delivery during the recruitment process for a permanent Director, staff recommends the interim appointment of Stacey Costa to serve as Child Support Director.
Ms. Costa brings significant institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and operational expertise to the role. Her appointment will provide stability and continuity during the transition while the County conducts a recruitment to identify the next permanent Director.
Staff recommends the Board accept Mr. Hoffman’s resignation and approve the interim appointment of Ms. Costa as Child Support Director.

There is no additional fiscal impact associated with the recommended action. Salary and benefit costs for the interim appointment will be absorbed within the department’s existing budget.

Ms. Costa brings continuity and institutional knowledge, resulting in the most effective transition with minimal impact on staff.
