RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Allocate .5 full-time equivalent (FTE) Program Coordinator (class 1425, salary range 427) position in budget unit 462, effective immediately following approval.

Body

SOURCE OF FUNDING

Grant Funding: Vesper Society

DISCUSSION:

First 5 Humboldt, and independent Children and Families Commission, has coordinated its Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)/Resilience project using a full-time program coordinator, funded by Vesper Society, an operating foundation dedicated to the promotion of health and social justice. The position has been responsible for coordinating with community organizations and conducting special projects related to the prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the promotion of resilience. Through an expansion of funding from Vesper Society, First 5 Humboldt seeks to allocate the work between a full-time and a part-time coordinator, in an effort to expand outreach and better serve the community. If, for any reason, Vesper Society chooses not to continue funding for the ACEs/Resilience project, First 5 Humboldt will either identify additional funding sources or eliminate the position.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to the County General Fund. Funding will be provided by external grant sources and/or Proposition 10/California Children and Families Act funding.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by protecting vulnerable populations .

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board could choose not to allocate a .5 FTE Program Coordinator position.
