DISCUSSION:

Pursuant to Section 9121-10 of the Humboldt County Code, the Chief Probation Officer shall provide to the Board of Supervisors a written report stating that the number of detentions that were solely based on civil immigration detainers (if any) by no later than June and December of each year. The report shall address the following issues for the time period covered the report:

 

A) A description of all communication received from the federal agency charged with enforcement of the federal immigration law, including but not limited to the number of civil immigration detainers, notification requests, and other types of communication.

 

B) A description of any communications the department made to the federal agency charged with enforcement of the federal immigration law, including but not limited to any department’s responses to inquires described herein.

Narrative Explanation of Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact to receiving this report. Staff estimates that roughly $470 in staff time is spent to prepare this semi-annual report, making the annual cost roughly $940. There is sufficient funding in Probation budget unit 1100235 to cover these costs.
