RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Authorize the extension of extra-help employment hours for Mechanic I, Ray Hoss, to a maximum of 1920 hours for fiscal year (FY) 2022-23 (4/5 Vote Required).

DISCUSSION:

Ray Hoss has been working as an extra-help employee during the current fiscal year.  To date, Mr. Hoss has worked a total of 926.5 hours as an Automotive Mechanic I.  Public Works Motor Pool is requesting an extension of extra-help hours to the total of 1920 hours for the remainder of FY 2022-23.  The requested extension of extra-help hours is necessary to maintain the level of services provided by, and maintain the workload of, Public Works Motor Pool.

Narrative Explanation of Financial Impact:

Estimated salary and benefit cost for the requested extension of extra-help is $20,482 for fund 3500 budget unit 350, Motor Pool-Operating.  There are sufficient funds budgeted in Motor Pool-Operating object line 1400 Extra Help to cover the additional cost of these hours. There is no impact to the General Fund.

All extra-help employees working beyond nine hundred and sixty (960) hours are subject to paying into the California Public Employee Retirement System (“PERS”).  The additional costs for PERS have been included in the above-mentioned estimated salary cost for the requested extension of extra-help hours.
