DISCUSSION:

The Local Transportation Fund (“LTF”) represents one-quarter (0.25) of a cent of the general sales tax rate collected statewide, which is returned to Humboldt County and is intended to pay for a variety of transportation needs.  These funds are received by the Humboldt County Association of Governments and are dispersed to the County of Humboldt and the seven (7) incorporated cities based on population. The County of Humboldt’s portion is allocated first to the transit operators, with the remainder of the funds being allocated to the Bicycle and Trailways Program and the Road Fund for maintenance.

The attached claim corresponds to the proposed amounts below.  The proposed amounts may change, and staff will return to the Board with a revised claim, if necessary. The LTF allocation for FY 2023-24 will be sufficient to fund all of the existing transit operations assuming no budget revisions are submitted by existing transit systems during the fiscal year.
