DISCUSSION:

October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about domestic and intimate partner violence, honor survivors and acknowledge the importance of prevention, education and accessible support services.

Since 1977, Humboldt Domestic Violence Services has been a dedicated resource for local individuals and families affected by abuse, providing support to those living with or escaping violence while working with community partners, such as Humboldt’s local Soroptimist International clubs, to promote safety and help break the cycle of abuse.

With this proclamation, the Board of Supervisors recognizes October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and honors Humboldt Domestic Violence Services for its 49 years of dedicated service and continued commitment to creating a safer and more supportive community in Humboldt County.
